Adiós Mayo! The beginning of summer for many, and as always a good time to hit the beaches of Rocky Point! Though the wind has been blowing through the past couple days, we expect it to calm down for a spectacular weekend! The word on the street is that many hotels and condo rentals are filling up and we expect tons of activity in coming days.
We’ll start with the 2012 Bikers Beach Fiesta being put on by the local Rocky Point Riders. The Beach Fiesta will be at the Concha del Mar campground & RV Park – this is to the (town)side of Playa Bonita…along the newly paved road leading off Calle 13 on the way to Sandy Beach. Activities include: Registration at the Barclin Circle K’s – one along Sonoyta-Peñasco highway, or the other by the Sandy Beach traffic circle on the way from Ave. Samuel Ocaña and the new paved road connecting the Coastal Highway to the Sandy Beach developments (Complete package $25 US includes pin, t-shirt, bandana, patch, discount bracelet, and more) Thursday: bikini bike wash @ beach, party all night at IceBox in the Mirador with Grupo Déjà vu Friday: Registration at Barclin’s music & DJ Saturday: 10 a.m registration at the beach (Concha del Mar) 12 p.m. parade leaving from beach to church in Old Port, blessing of bikes and helmets, 3 p.m. Bikini contest, 4 p.m. Bike contest, 6 p.m. bike show, 8 p.m. Live concert with the Legendar Apson / alternate Déjà vu Sunday – breakfast along with coffee **Jot this down – 12th Rocky Point Rally coming November 8 – 11, 2012…look for info coming up on cometorockypoint.com**
This Friday also marks the beginning of the annual Marine Day FEST (to run 5/25 – 6/3), put on by the Business and Professional Women’s Club. The event, along with carnival rides, is set up by El Chamizal and will include music, teatro del pueblo, and more. Free entrance on Friday 5/25 and then accessible costs for families, kids, and all! Marine Day in Mexico is June 1st.
Wanting to learn more about some of the businesses around town? This Saturday, 5/26, Shrimp Park will be the place to be from about 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the 2012 Peñasco Business Expo – music, entertainment, food, info about activities around town, services, raffle prizes, and more. We hear there will also be a dunk tank on hand! Find Sami from RockyPoint360 at the raffle booth and say hi!
How about some comedy for the weekend? Catch comic Chris Porter at Las Palomas Convention Center on Friday or Saturday 5/25 & 5/26. Fishing? This is the final weekend of the 57th Annual Fishing Derby of the Cholla Bay Sportsmen’s Club (CBSC) with a Fish Fry and awards on Sunday! **Want more fishing fun – coming July 7th and 8th it’s the 5th Deep Sea Fishing Tournament**
Looking ahead, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers 21st edition of Circus Mexicus is coming up June 8 – 10, 2012! Attention local Rocky Point community, event organizers tell us this year they are discounting their Saturday Circus Mexicus tickets to $15 US for Mexican nationals and Rocky Point residents with Mexican ID card (IFE, FM2, FM3, etc.) Tickets can be bought in advance at either Wrecked @ the Reef, or at the door on Saturday June 9th, but you need to show Mexican ID when you buy and pick up tickets. Discounted tickets cannot be resold.
And to enjoy this weekend how about some Golf? Local golf courses are looking great, and at Peninsula de Cortés the excitement about last weekend’s tournament can still be felt on very fast greens.
