Nearly 55,000 U.S. tourists visited the beaches of Puerto Peñasco during the week leading up to and including U.S. Memorial Day, with hotels reporting an average of 85% occupancy, according to local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) President Héctor Vázquez del Mercado. This translates into an economic influx of more than 50 million pesos.
The OCV President indicated this data bodes for a good summer season for the city, with visitors from the U.S., Mexico, and beyond. He furthered that Memorial Day Weekend alone registered approximately 35,000 visitors across the various hotels and condo complexes, which reached 90% occupancy rates. According to these numbers, they estimate an economic boost of more than 50 million pesos throughout the holiday week.
One of the factors for this increase in tourism to Puerto Peñasco is the peso / dollar exchange rate, which favors folks from the U.S. Additional factors include proximity with Arizona and California, plus hotel/condo infrastructure.
Héctor Vázquez del Mercado detailed the U.S. Memorial Day Weekend marks the beginning of the busy summer vacation season for both national and foreign visitors.
