The recent Memorial Day weekend in Puerto Peñasco was certainly one to remember! In fact, according to Hector Vazquez del Mercado, President of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), local accommodation providers reported an average 84% occupancy rate for the entire weekend with 100% on Saturday, May 26th! This, Vazquez added, represents about 31,000 visitors solely at area hotels, rentals, and RV parks and an economic influx of 1.1 million USD. 80% of those visiting Puerto Peñasco during the Memorial Day weekend came from the US. Both Vazquez del Mercado, as well as OCV Director Javier Muñoz, expressed that these numbers – along with those from the popular Spring Break and Semana Santa periods – reflect the positive impact promotional campaigns have had both in the US and in Mexico.
