The City of Puerto Peñasco has set about upgrading parts of the emblematic area of the Malecón Fundadores in the Old Port through a one-million-peso investment. Mayor Jorge Pivac Carrillo detailed the goal is to improve the overall image of the Malecón, which is a central tourist attraction and gathering spot for residents and visitors alike.
Current work at the malecón entails rehabilitating areas while providing maintenance throughout the corridor, as well as to plazas, stairways, and benches. This includes painting the entire concrete floor of the main esplanade, its perimeter walls and curbs, as well as public restrooms, and murals on the police outpost. The mural, being done by two local artists, showcases images of the Pinacate mountain range, El Elegante Crater, and Isla San Jorge (Bird Island).
Additional work at the malecón through this investment encompasses: restoration and painting of nearly 120 benches, painting of all the concrete pots and pedestrian crossings, application of enamel on the steps of Plaza Colosio, and maintenance of 11 pergola structures, in addition to painting the garrisons of the main avenue.
Through a press release, the mayor detailed these actions are among various rehabilitation projects being carried out across the city as the year begins, with the goal of improving overall urban image and city streets.
