The Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau intends to put nearly 12 million pesos into promotional campaigns during 2016.
Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, President of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), explains the office’s promotional campaigns in 2016 will be aimed principally at Arizona, California, Baja California, and Sonora. This, he added, is to strengthen existing tourism while attracting new visitors.
Vázquez del Mercado indicated 2016 promotional efforts include $200,000 USD for promotion in the U.S., and 3 million pesos to publicize Puerto Peñasco in Mexico. These resources come from the 2% accommodations tax, which in turn is met with an equal amount from the Mexican Tourism Promotion Board (CPTM).
The OCV President stated promotional efforts for Puerto Peñasco will continue in Baja California, where the majority of Mexican visitors come from, along with strengthened publicity in Arizona as most tourists to the area come from there.
He added they are continuing to analyze possibilities to open flights between Phoenix and Puerto Peñasco, and though nothing is confirmed yet this flight route could begin sometime this year.
