Despite adverse conditions surrounding Covid-19, Puerto Peñasco welcomed over 25,000 visitors over the recent U.S. Labor Day vacation weekend, detailed Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, president of the Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV). He further indicated area hotels and resorts reported average occupancy of 75% over the holiday weekend, which traditionally marks the end of the summer season.
The OCV president stated the amount of visitors over Labor Day, predominantly from the U.S., represented economic revenue of nearly 1.6 million dollars in the area, or around 32 million pesos.
Vázquez del Mercado emphasized while Labor Day numbers were positive as to the amount of visitors, Puerto Peñasco can’t let up on strategies aimed at containing and stopping the spread of Covid-19. He noted health protocols remain in place at area hotels and resorts.
