On September 15th, Saúl “Canelo”Alvarez, Mexico’s favorite middleweight boxer, will have a rematch with Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin of Kazakhstan. Yet, for Puerto Peñasco, boxing fans are proud to call super flyweight Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada our own. So with another weekend of boxing on the plate, in lead up to Mexican Independence Day no less, here’s a recap of last weekend’s bout at Superfly 3 just outside Los Angeles.
On September 8th, Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada managed to defeat Felipe “Gallito” Orucuta by unanimous decision.
The Puerto Peñasco native proved his dominance during many rounds, even though Orucuta proved to be a fierce competitor. It was in the final rounds when “Gallo” Estrada landed a string of blows that forced Orucuta down to one knee, though managing to say in the fight till the end.
This victory for Juan Francisco Estrada means he gets to contend for the World Boxing Council’s Super Fly Title, currently held by Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. That fight is going to be one heck of a re-match.
In the meantime, this weekend all of Mexico will be tuned in for the middleweight rematch of Canelo vs. GGG!
