Based on current reservations at area hotels and resorts, the Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) expects a strong Spring Break with occupancy levels at 90% to 100%, and the arrival of approximately 160,000 visitors. This number would reflect a 10% increase over last year.
OCV Director Héctor Vázquez del Mercado highlighted positive expectations for the Spring Break period, particularly from March 10th – 19th. He detailed last year 146,000 visitors made their way to Puerto Peñasco for Spring Break. In addition to university students, the typical “Spring Breaker” in Rocky Point is evolving as in recent years more families have chosen to vacation together
The high expectations for Rocky Point Spring Break 2017 illustrate that despite political changes in the U.S., Puerto Peñasco continues to be an excellent tourist destination in Sonora as it is the closest beach to the Arizona border.
“Our optimism is the result of intense coordinated promotional work in the U.S. between Rocky Point’s OCV, as well as the State and Federal government, and regional authorities,” emphasized Vázquez del Mercado.
