City Press Release
The City of Gila Bend, AZ, in coordination with a group of Gila Bend residents, recently presented the local Office on Integral Family Development (DIF) with a check for $6000 US.
With a group of Gila Bend residents on hand, Mayor Steven Holt along with his wife Mrs. Julie Holt, made the presentation of the check to local DIF President Rafaela Félix de Figueroa during the recent Black & White Ball.
This resource will be used for the manufacture of special wheelchairs for both children and adults with cerebral paralysis; the chairs themselves were designed by Puerto Peñasco native and engineering graduate from the Autonomous University of Baja California, Engineer Vladimir Alvídrez.
Mrs. María Romero of Gila Bend has become a principal ally in establishing a sisterhood between Puerto Peñasco and Gila Bend while also supporting the work of the Basic Rehabilitation Unit (UBR) and the DIF’s social programs.
The Puerto Peñasco DIF President expressed her gratitude for the donation from the City of Gila Bend and made assurances the local administration, under Mayor Gerardo Figueroa Zazueta, would be working on firming up the sister-city project between Puerto Peñasco and Gila Bend.
