Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada retained his double world championship belts after defeating Hernan “Tyson” Marquez by technical knockout on Saturday night, September 26th, before a packed crowd of Peñasquenses and visitors.
The Puerto Peñasco Expo Convention Center was the scene for the stellar fight, which came to a close in the 10th round after Gallito Estrada sent Marquez to the mat for a seventh time.
The fight, announced by Jimmy “Showtime” Lennon Jr., kept the more than 4,000 people from Sonora, Arizona, and Baja California on the edge of emotion from beginning to end, moving them to their feet at intense moments, accompanied by encouraging cheers for “El Gallito.”
Although the former flyweight champion from Empalme offered a strong start to the fight, his efforts were dampened by the barrage of punches from Puerto Peñasco hometown champ Gallito Estrada, weakening Marquez until the ref called the fight in the 10th, leading to the triumph of WBA/WBO flyweight champ Estrada Romero.
Fans at the event, which included at least 10 additional bouts by promising and accomplished boxers from Mexico, Nicaragua, and the Phillippines, were not disappointed as the night was full of intense moments between Estrada and Marquez. ¡Felicidades Gallito!
