Puerto Peñasco, Mexico – Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort is hosting the Funkalicious 27th Pirate Booty: Rocky Point XXVII Tournament on Saturday, May 7, 2022. This four-player, coed beach volleyball tournament supports all play levels and offers six flights of play, from A to Recreational. Tournament participants register as a team; however, individuals can also purchase a Paid Player wristband for $55 dollars to enjoy 3-day unlimited beach court play without the pressure of competition.
“Las Palomas has been the official venue for Funkalicious for over 10 years,” said Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, general director of Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort. “We welcome all arriving tournament players with a reception party on Friday evening that includes a poolside barbeque and live music. What better way to relax than with views of the balmy Sea of Cortés and Sandy Beach, which provide the backdrop and ‘court’ for this amazing summer event.”
Registration for Funkalicious is now open to all online. As the host resort for the Pirate Booty: Rocky Point XXVII Tournament, Las Palomas is also offering special weekend pricing. Book directly with the resort using code FUNK22 and password FUNKY for the best rates during this three-day event. Because the resort has condos with up to four bedrooms, you can bring the whole family or stay with tourney team members right on site.
Top teams are awarded cool swag throughout a full day of competition starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. “Our primary goal is to serve up the highest quality, positive vibed, player-centered, professionally organized and built-for-fun barefoot volleyball action in Rocky Point,” said Shawn McConnell, CEO of Funkalicious Volleyball based in Arizona.
Despite Funkalicious having a laid back and local feel, the tournament reaches beyond borders, drawing players from all over the world. Rocky Point expects to see over 300 participants from Arizona, California, and Nevada, as well as from Mexico (Tijuana, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua), Canada and Latin America.
