The last weekend of September in Puerto Peñasco saw hotel occupancy rates at 50% on average, thanks to the success of the Fall triathlon held at Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort. This, detailed Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) President Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, is part of a series of events meant to promote tourism in what is generally considered the low-season.
The OCV President noted over 320 athletes took part in the “Las Palomas Nights” triathlon, which was a first for the Fall though the Spring triathlon has been going on for over 10 years. Adding the September triathlon date proved to attract at least 1000 tourists to the area, providing a positive impact on this seaside destination at a time often considered to be off-season. Vázquez del Mercado deemed this to have been a good first Fall event, and anticipates next year will attract even more athletes looking to enjoy Puerto Peñasco.
