The week started off with a gush of wind, blowing sand into each and every crevice in town. We’ve all but gotten sand out of parts unknown, and patio chairs are back in place, so it’s time for the Weekend Rundown.
April 12th & 13th Puerto Peñasco has been selected this year as one of the hosts of the 3rd International Desert Film Festival, with invited country Bosnia and Herzogovina. There will be FREE screenings Fri. (12th) and Sat. (13th) at the Municipal Auditorium, closing out Saturday night at CitiCinemas.
Children’s functions will open up each day of the Festival, Friday at 10 a.m., and Saturday at 11 a.m., with films showing throughout the afternoon and into the evening. The official inauguration of the two day fest, led by Peñasco mayor Prof. Gerardo Figueroa Zazueta, is on Friday evening (4/12), 7 p.m. at the Municipal Auditorium (across from City Hall) though there are functions earlier in the day. Saturday, from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. there will also be a Jazz presentation as the Fest transitions from the auditorium over to CitiCinemas.

Pinacate! Hours for the Visitors Center and Pinacate entrance are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and recommendations are for morning visitors to stop by the Visitors Center first (with its newly installed museum pieces) and take in their interpretative trails and spectacular views over ancient lava flows. Then, continue along with a visit to the Pinacate craters (entry pass is valid for both spots). Cost $50 pesos visitors, $25 pesos Peñasco residents.

CEDO! The Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans in Las Conchas offers unique ways to explore the desert and Sea of Cortez with ecotours like kayaking, a tour through the Morua estuary, and tidepool tours.
