Grab an earth friendly bag, along with your holiday shopping list, and plan to head to Puerto Peñasco’s 1st Farmers’ Market & Art Show to be held this Sat., Dec. 17, just behind Don Julio’s off Blvd. Fremont, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. This is just the beginning! In a brief interview earlier this month, event organizer Mike McLaughlin shared with us his hopes that this will become a weekly Saturday Farmers’ Market in Peñasco, starting up again around Jan. 7th.
McLaughlin, who now resides full-time in Rocky Point, has been coming to the area since the 60s and has seen how it has changed over the years. Owner of the hacienda style building just behind Don Julio’s, he thought what better way to put the ample parking space to use than to help promote local artists, small business owners, farmers and ranchers, and provide all around community info through a Farmers’ Market style fair. Enthralled with weekly Farmers’ Markets in Tucson, he hopes the Puerto Peñasco Farmers’ Market & Art Show will provide a valuable space for vendors to exhibit their work, produce, and goods while helping to boost local business.
So far on the line up we hear there is going to be fresh bread, prepared food, fruit and vegetable stands, fresh fish, custom glass work and jewelry, artwork, holiday decorations, and live music coming from the patio at Don Julio’s. There will also be one stand collecting toys and blankets as donations during this holiday season. There are 35 spaces available in all, measuring approx. 20 x 20 ft. and vendors/artists are requested to bring their own tables and chairs, prices for booth space range from $20 – $30 US. See you at the Farmers’ Market this Saturday!
