August 22nd is International Firefighters Day and the local Fire Department has much to celebrate after receiving summer donations of tools and equipment with a total value of approximately $45,000 USD.
Dr. Francisco Javier Carrillo Ruiz, Director of Civil Protection and the Fire Department, detailed donations received since mid-July will strengthen its overall emergency response abilities.
The first donation, consisting of 65 pieces of high-tech equipment and other devices, was provided by fellow firefighter friends from the United States, via mediation of Rocky Point Rally founder Oscar Palacio and a motorcycle club from Cuba, New Mexico. The equipment includes automatic defibrillators, cardiac monitors, compressed air tanks, masks with radio communications, hoses, firefighter suits, nozzles and other accessories.
Carrillo Ruiz also highlighted the additional donation of a 2019 model four-wheeler, equipped for emergencies, donated by an air ambulance company that has been present in Puerto Peñasco for several years.
The Director of Civil Protection and the Fire Department noted the donated equipment was put into operation immediately, as the department truly was in need of such equipment in order to provide quality emergency pre-hospital services, help more people, and better respond to emergencies.
