Twelve days after becoming World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and the Ring super-flyweight champion, the pride of Peñasco, Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada, returned triumphantly to town on Thursday, March 25th.
Following a spectacular win over Román “Chocolatito” González, the down-to-earth Rocky Point super flyweight spoke with local press before leading a caravan along many of the city’s main streets, which wound its way to the Malecon.
“El Gallo” emphasized his satisfaction with the tremendous victory over “El Chocolatito” González, following the hard-fought 12 round bout that came down to the judges’ score cards. He was also visibly pleased upon returning to his hometown of Purto Peñasco, once again as world boxing champion, solidifying his commitment both to the sport of boxing and the community where he was born.
Following a brief stay in Puerto Peñasco, the world boxing champion from the shores of the Sea of Cortez plans to return to train in Hermosillo in preparation for upcoming fights, which could include facing Srisaket Sor Rungvisai once more or even a third face-off with Román “Chocolatito” González.
¡Felicidades, Gallo! ¡Bienvenido a casa!
