Reports this morning online from the Arizona Republic, and the local Spanish news agency numerounoonline.com announced a 4.7 earthquake shook Rocky Point early on Friday, Dec. 23. The U.S. Geological Observatory, located in Golden, CO, registered the quake as having taken place at 5:32 a.m. in the Gulf of California about 40 miles south of Puerto Peñasco. Other than a flurry of surprised remarks by a few individuals living in development projects along the beach, no one seemed to be aware of the quake locally until official reports came out.
There do not appear to be any damages reported by Civil Protection offices. The quake’s epicenter was approximately 6.2 miles below the sea floor.
