With a style all his own, though without being married to any specific genre, singer/songwriter David Aguilar will perform this evening, Jan. 9th, at 8 p.m. in the Municipal Auditorium. Local organizer, and talented musician in his own right, Luis Lugo expressed he is pleasantly surprised with the response in ticket sales as many more people than he expected are already familiar with Aguilar’s work. Tickets are 60 pesos / person or 150 pesos VIP seating in the front and will still be available at the door this evening. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music begins around 8.
Aguilar’s musical style, as he himself describes, incorporates just about any style and stretches from rock to jazz, more traditional and classic to norteña polka and reggae – though he confesses “I made it late to reggae.” Recently he has also worked on developing a few Sinaloa banda songs into his repertoire. “My challenge is always to seek a style that uses the largest amount of genres,” Aguilar emphasized.
During a late night press conference just after his arrival from Hermosillo, Aguilar smiled mischievously as he explained he generally plays for about 1.5 – 2 hours as he goes through some of the more than 150 songs he’s written over the years. Although, he added, he has played for up to 4 hours on stage when the public is up for it. This evening, following the concert, everyone is invited to continue with a night of music and good spirits with an “after concert” gathering at El Tapeo Wine Bar (Laos Mar Hotel).
