Cancer detection campaign sees over 300 people

Men and women from across the community visited the mobile cancer screening clinic during a recent free health campaign of the local George Papanicolaou chapter in Puerto Peñasco.

Chapter president, Carmen Morales Valles, reported 313 people of an anticipated 500 took part in the cancer detection program, which offered screenings for uterine, breast, and prostate cancer.

The mobile clinic, which belongs to the state level of the cancer awareness group, visited five different spots across Puerto Peñasco over the course of a week.  Fortunately, while no positive cancer tests were immediately detected, one questionable result was directed to the corresponding hospital for further evaluation. In addition, pap results would be available in about a month.

It’s worth noting on Oct. 12th the “Run for Pink” 5K aims to raise funds for the ongoing work of the George Papanicolaou association.
