Art and music will take center stage on Wednesday evening, Feb. 29th at Peñasco del Sol Hotel with an 8 p.m. piano concert recital by German Esquer Delgado, local musician and one of the instructors with the Puerto Peñasco Youth Orchestra, as well as an exhibit of the International Photography Festival from Alamos, Sonora.
The piano concert, which will be held in the Gran Salon Peñasco, will cost 100 pesos per person and is to include pieces of Chopin, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff as well as a Jazz ensemble and a piano/violin duet. Proceeds from the event will go to Pro-Asilo de Ancianos (benefitting the home for the elderly).
Prior to the concert, an International Photography exhibit will be set up in the lobby outside the Gran Salon (no additional cost). Katherine Callingham, who has been involved with the Photo Festival since 2006 and who resides in Alamos, tells us the Photography Festival entitled Mines, Miners and their Communities 2011 includes “50 photographs of the mines and communities of northwestern Mexico, and the southwestern United States, by 16 photographers from both sides of the border.”
The exhibit, which starts in Alamos every other year, travels throughout the states of Sonora and Arizona. The festival is sponsored by the Sonoran Cultural Institute and the AZ-Sonora Commission. Callingham, and her brother Bob Rink who was the City of Phoenix photographer for 29 years, tells us she has worked with the Sonoran Cultural Institute as well as the Art & Cultural Committee of the AZ-Sonora Commission since about 2006. The photo exhibit should remain on display at Peñasco del Sol for about two weeks before moving on to be part of the traditional 6 de abril festivities in Caborca (that celebrate how the city repelled an invasion from the north over 150 years ago).
So well done Shandra! Hope you will enjoy the exhibit.
I’m looking forward to the concert and seeing everyone.
