Each year the local branch of the George Papanicolaou Group brings a mobile-clinic to town in order, offering free cancer screening services to women throughout the community. These services include pap smears and breast checks, as well as mammogram services as needed.
The annual campaign, which sets up in different parts of town, began earlier in the week and will be set up this evening, Oct 1st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., near “El Óvalo” (recreation center near the baseball stadium). Since the “mobile clinic” began, the group has already seen more than 70 patients.
Screening tests are taken by Dr. Pimental, assisted by Nurse Carmen Morales, while other group members assist with files.
Mobile clinic hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with access spots varying throughout the week. During the first few days, the mobile clinic has already set up at the Centro Cristiano Rocaportense along Calle Lázaro Cárdenas and at the Plaza del Maestro (often called the “Pencil Park”). On Wednesday morning, Oct. 1st, the “mobile clinic” planned to set up near Blvd. Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez in the morning, moving to El Óvalo later in the day.
On Thursday, Oct. 2nd, the clinic will be at the Community Center in the neighborhood Nueva Esperanza (behind the CERESO), near the intersection of streets Guillermo Prieto and Roberto Gracida.
On Friday,Oct. 3rd., the clinic will move to “Gallito Estrada Court” along Ave. Luis Encinas in the Ferrocarril neighborhood.
In addition to annual mobile clinics, the local George Papanicolaou group has offices located behind the General Hospital and works to raise health awareness regarding women and cancer throughout the year.
