As avid travelers and aficionados of all things Mexico, it’s worth remembering 5 de mayo celebrations commemorate the 1862 Battle of Puebla when the Mexican army defeated the French in Puebla de Zaragoza.  With all the hoopla on the northern side of the border, some may mistake 5 de mayo for Mexico’s Independence Day, yet we need to wait for mid-September for that. Still, 5 de mayo rolls off the tongue easily and with it falling on a weekend this year there’s much ado about fiesta.  Rather you raise a glass this weekend at CheveFest, rock out to tributes at the DirtFest, get even down and dirtier at the mud run, or stay bright with Sunday’s Color Run – there’s plenty to do.
