The Red Cross’ annual funds drive went into effect in late March, and locally on April 12th with a 20,000 peso donation presented by mayor Jorge Pivac Carrillo. As always, it’s important to keep in mind the altruistic group is a non-governmental organization and relies principally on donations.
The “Once isn’t Enough, Dig Deeper” (Una sola vez no basta, dona más) 2023 Red Cross drive has set a local goal to raise 520,000 pesos (approximately $30,000 USD). These funds will go to address part of the group’s local operating and maintenance costs.
Puerto Peñasco Red Cross board president Miguel Guevara Askar emphasized this year’s goal is to far surpass last year’s collection of just 290,000 pesos. Guevara added, an extra incentive this year is if the local Red Cross meets its 520,000 peso goal, the Encántame Towers development is ready to match this! That means a possible 1.040 million pesos for the local Red Cross from this year’s drive!
The annual Red Cross collection is one of the main sources of income to sustain the organization within the community, along with continual provision of the more than 30 daily services provided to residents and tourists alike in Puerto Peñasco.
