Teenager Noemí “Mimí” Rodríguez Lugo of Puerto Peñasco, along with three other Sonoran athletes, are taking part in preselection for the national women’s team for the PanAmerican Championship to be held at the end of March in Bariloche, Argentina. The four women currently on the preliminary list gained their spots following the 2022 Turkey Tournement held in San Luis Potosí in each of the following categories: Noemí Rodríguez (over 87 kilograms), Daphne Guillén (56 kilos), Karla Ortiez (64 kilos), and Ana Carmen Torres (71 kilos).
Rafael Escobedo Zamorano, chair of the Sonoran Weightlifting Association, stated the Mexican Weightlifting Federation decides on the 20-person national team though will be formally set at the National Assembly to be held at the end of February in San Luis Potosí.
