The local Red Cross relaunched the “Red Cross with You” program over the second weekend of January, fulfilling its commitment to social service in Puerto Peñasco with actions that benefit vulnerable populations.
Ruben Barajas Jaime, Emergency Response Coordinator for the local Red Cross, detailed in addition to responding to emergencies that arise, the institution undertakes various activities to benefit the community. On Sunday, on January 9th, Red Cross staff and volunteers distributed hot chocolate, and pastries to people of limited resources or traveling through the port, particularly near the city’s train tracks.
Thirty-five Red Cross volunteers participated in the Jan. 9th activity, distributing 25 liters of hot chocolate and 120 pieces of bread in the vicinity of the railway station, the landfill area, and the neighborhood of Nuevo Peñasco.
Barajas Jaime noted the activity also provided the opportunity to provide those they met with information about the Red Cross’ “reestablishing family contact” program so, as necessary, the institution can help in contacting relatives in Mexico or abroad.
