With 724 sea turtle eggs collected along the beaches of Puerto Peñasco, leading to nearly 400 baby turtles released back into the Sea of Cortez, 2017 was certainly historic for the area given the number of sea turtle nestings.
Marcia Ortega Morales of the Clean Beaches Committee detailed turtle nests in 2017 were found in front of Sonoran Sun, Las Palomas, Las Palmas, Bella Sirena, and Esmeralda along Sandy Beach, as well as in Las Conchas, Playa Encanto, and out toward Mayan Palace.
According to fishermen and others, Ortega noted, the number of sea turtle nests in Puerto Peñasco this past year was unprecedented.
