With an influx of more than 2 million visitors in 2015, Puerto Peñasco grew 13 percentage points in the area of tourism.
According to data from the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), 2015 closed out with a general occupation rate of 44%, representing estimates of 2,008,070 visitors to the area in the year.
Liz Ibarra, Office Administrator at the OCV, indicated 2015 surpassed goals outlined at the beginning of the year, which were to welcome more than 2 million visitors to the area.
She indicated 2014 numbers recorded 1.7 million visitors, or rather an overall 39% occupancy rate.
In 2015, she emphasized, promotional work of Puerto Peñasco as a beach destination focused on markets both in Mexico as well as the southwestern part of the U.S.
She added the period from December to February is often considered a lower tourism season, therefore they will be working on plans to promote the destination in an effort to attract more tourism while emphasizing it as a great spot to visit!
