Work on the first phase of the recreational “Mile Circuit” in the heart of the city’s athletic facilities is advancing.
The athletic track that is part of the larger recreational project, into which 45 million pesos will be invested, will cover an area stretching 6 kilometers and 830 square meters. The track will be covered with a synthetic surface, while other facilities will include outdoor “indoor soccer” arenas, two basketball courts, as well as a baseball field, shaded bleachers, dugouts and a backstop, among other additions. The plan also entails renovation of the current hand-ball (or “fronton”) court.
Work on the athletic facilities is taking place in Col. Deportiva, between the streets of López Mateos (behind the current baseball stadium), Mariano Abasolo and Rodolfo Campodonico, as well as along the avenue Alejandro Sobarzo.
In order to provide additional safety to those who will use the new facilities, a perimeter fence measuring 1,680 meters is being built as added protection for the facilities themselves.
The larger recreational project for the city, which includes a multi-use gym in the area of Nueva Esperanza, aims to open spaces for sports and recreation in other parts of the city while reaching out to more people.
