The yearly Marina Fest in Puerto Peñasco, organized by the Business and Professional Women’s Club will take place from May 23 – June 1st.
Celebrations leading up to the traditional Día de la Marina (June 1st) will begin on Friday, May 23rd, with the 20th annual Marina Fest. The Fest is to include musical presentations, mechanical rides, comic shows for the whole family, and the traditional parading of queen candidates through town, followed by the coronation ceremony at the Fest.
Aleida Grijalva, President of the Puerto Peñasco Business and Professional Women’s Club, accompanied by Haydee Vega de Sanger, Lorenia Morales and 2013 Marina Fest Queen María Isabel Velador, recently went over the 10-day schedule of events with press, noting the location of this year’s Fest will take place near the intersection of Blvd. Juarez and Calle No Reelección.
Grijalva indicated an additional goal of the Marina Fest has always been to raise funds for the Club’s ongoing scholarship programs for young women across the city.
Entry to the Marina Fest is just 20 pesos for adults, and 10 pesos for children, with a few offers in between. On the inaugural night, Friday, May 23rd, there is free entry from 7 – 9 p.m. and just 10 pesos after 9 p.m. On May 28th, entry proceeds will go to the Dialysis Center project of the DIF, or people may bring 1 kilo of support (canned food, rice, or beans) in lieu of pesos. Rides within the Fest grounds themselves run a cost of about 20 pesos each (approximately $1.75 US).
Invited artists include El Gran Jefe (formerly known as Tropicalisimo Apache), Germán Montero (former vocalist for Arrolladora Banda el Limón), Raúl Hernández (member of Tigres del Norte), Los Bisnietos, Susy Aguilar (the twin voice of Jenny Rivera), and Banda Tierra Calienta. In addition, the comic show “Chiltepines de Sonora” will be performing daily.
Entry cost to concerts varies from 50 pesos for concerts on the 24th and 31st and up to 300 pesos for the VIP area on the closing night, June 1st. Tickets for the final concert evening may be bought in advance at El Estudiante and Frutería Los Cuates (120 pesos), at the gate 150 pesos, and VIP section 300 pesos).
The parading of Marina Fest Queen candidates will take place on Friday, May 30th beginning at 5 p.m. from the Plaza la Madre. The route will wind around main streets in town and end at the Fest grounds.
