2015 tourism numbers well over 2014

Puerto Peñasco has already registered a 22% growth in tourism during the first part of 2015 over the entire number of visitors to the area last year.

Though a number of important tourism months are still to come, principally the rest of July, August, and again in October and the first part of November, there has already been 22% growth in the number of both national and foreign tourists in 2015 when compared to 2014 overall.  These numbers were expressed by Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, President of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), as demonstrated in statistics provided by the tourism promotion office.

The OCV President indicated that June alone saw a 13% increase in vacationers at various hotels, condominiums, and rental homes throughout Puerto Peñasco when compared to 2014.

Furthermore, he noted, the average annual occupancy level is about 43% when taking into account peak periods including Semana Santa, Spring Break, Memorial Day, and Labor Day along with weaker periods from November through February.

The month of June, for example, saw an average rate of 65% occupancy levels strengthened particularly by tourism from the U.S. He estimates this represents average daily spending of $55 US/person.
