The streets of Rocky Point will soon echo once more with the rumbling engines of motorcycles cruising through town, all as part of the much anticipated 2011 Rocky Point Rally. The rally, now in its 11th year, will take place from Nov. 10th thru 13th, with all registration fees going to charity.
Begun in 2001 with just 380 bikers, the Rally quickly grew to its highest point in 2006 with about 9000 motorcycle aficionados roaring into town. This year, rally organizers expect to welcome over 3500 bikes over the rally weekend. In addition to a traditional Saturday bike parade through town, which always thrills local and visiting spectators alike, the rally includes plenty of opportunities for fiestas, concerts, poker-runs, and spectacular rides across the Sonoran desert.
Participants who pay the registration fee will receive the official 2011 Rocky Point Rally pin, among other useful items. Event organizers emphasize that, just as over the past decade, funds collected from rally registrations will be divided among seven local charitable and service organizations:
- Peñasco Red Cross
- Peñasco Fire Department
- José Dávalos Valdivia Casa Hogar home for the elderly
- La Montaña school for children with exceptional needs
- George Papanicolau group to prevent and combat cervical cancer
- Peñasco Office on Integral Family Development (DIF – family services organization)
- Sonoyta Office on Integral Family Development
