Fire Department provides temporary shelter from cold

By José Antonio Pérez

Due to low temperatures in Puerto Peñasco so far this winter, 24 people, mostly male, have found temporary refuge at the local fire station as they seek somewhere warm to sleep.

Fire Commander Julio Cesar Garcia Castro specified the main Fire Station on Blvd. Fremont is receiving an average of 4 people daily who are seeking temporary shelter, particularly with night temperatures reaching below 40°F, and the cold expected to continue. The Fire Chief indicated the local fire department, in coordination with the Municipal DIF, Public Health, and other offices,  will continue to provide help and support to anyone in need, since their main goal is to prevent deaths from hypothermia or any other cold related complication.
