Strong start to May in Puerto Peñasco

More than 30K tourists from Mexico and abroad were reported to have visited Puerto Peñasco beaches over the recent holiday weekend.

Mexican tourists took advantage of the holiday weekend, stretching from Labor Day (May 1st) and extending for some all the way through 5 de mayo, to rest along the beaches of Puerto Peñasco. Weekend numbers pointed to an occupancy rate of more than 65% at area hotels and condos, explained Héctor Vázquez del Mercado of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, furthering that this represents an economic boost of approximately 25 million pesos for the area.

After confirming these statistics Vázquez del Mercado, President of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), added this number is above that registered during the same time last year.

He indicated in addition to visitors from Mexico, given the Mexican holiday, there was also a strong presence of people from the U.S. with events including the regatta and others.

Vázquez del Mercado noted that of the economic boost, approximately 30% went into the tourism sector, benefiting thousands of families across Puerto Peñasco.
