12th Annual “Caminos de Kino” to recall steps of Padre Kino at Pinacate

In recalling the footsteps of Jesuit priest Padre Francisco Eusebio Kino through this region more than 200 years ago, the 12th “Caminatas de Kino” journey is scheduled to take place March 17th – 18th at the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve.  Organizers note this year’s trip will explore new sites, and also include talks about the life and work of Padre Kino.

Organized by the History Studies Foundation, along with support of the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve and the city administration of Puerto Peñasco, the trip is limited to 100 people and will include camping on the 17th and the traditional “caminata” trek on Sunday.

Requirements

  1. a) Register at Municipal Library (across from City Hall) Monday – Friday 8 am – 3:30 pm
  2. b) Limited to 100 people, as regulated by the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve
  3. c) Cost $100 pesos per car

Program:

  1. Friday, March 16th, 7 p.m. Exhibition “Por los caminos de Kino” at the Municipal Art Gallery in the malecon. Conference on the life of Eusebio Francisco Kino presented by Margarita Ramírez Celaya
  2. Saturday, March 17th 11 a.m. meet-up and departure from El Chamizal toward Pinacate
  3. Arrive and set up in camping area
  4. 7 p.m. evening cultural activities at camp site – conference, presentations, music
  5. Sunday, March 18th, hike, lunch at 1 p.m.
