Given the lack of large rock to buffer the breakwater levy, Project Supervisor Wendy Winzer explains more than 70,000 medium to large concrete cubes are presently being manufactured, the largest of which can reach up to 10.26 tons.home-port-4-300x194 Work on HomePort progresses following setbacks

Along with construction of the levy, which will function as a breakwater for cruise ship docks, work is also underway on steel pilings that will be the columns to lift the dock.

The levy is being built through the use of four sizes of rock, along with the medium and large concrete cubes which are being placed along the sides of the levy to protect the smaller stone. At the same time, ongoing production of the cubes continues just off Sandy Beach. Winzer notes, “At least 70,000 cubes are required and to date 7,000 have been manufactured.”

The Homeport project, which is the sole of its kind in the country, began in 2013 and will include an investment of nearly 1.4 billion pesos in federal funds. The entire project is to include the levy, cruise ship dock, access avenue, and boardwalk area.
