Weekend Rundown 4/27 – 4/29

April is nearing an end with May just around the corner. Next week launches with Children’s Day activities at schools all over town on Monday, April 30th, and then Tuesday, May 1st, is Labor Day in Mexico (bank holiday).

Cartel-Danza-DEF-copia-400x620 Weekend Rundown 4/27 - 4/29This weekend rundown starts off with a celebration of dance, the 2nd Celebration of International Dance Day event is tonight (4/27) at Peñasco del Sol hotel starting at 5 p.m. The presentations are set to be in the Gran Salón with tickets at the door, if you don’t already have them.

Saturday morning from about 10 am – 4 pm, weather permitting, art and other vendors may be found at the Farmers/Arts Market just behind Don Julio’s restaurant. Take a right on the street just past Banorte off of Blvd. Fremont and see what treasures there may be this weekend!

funkilicious-las-palomas-620x190 Weekend Rundown 4/27 - 4/29For things to see around town, there’s the Funkalicious volleyball tournament by Las Palomas and also the Cabalgata Costera (Coastal Horse Ride) coming through starting on Sat. evening over near El Chamizal (off Blvd. Juarez coming into town).

CEDO has its Nature talks on Saturday in Las Conchas, plus a trip to Bird Island scheduled for Saturday (simply amazing!). Missing some sand, the Los Patos race track is once again hosting Sand Drags on Sunday, with gates opening around noonish, $60 pesos and kids under 11 are free – no ice chests. Los Patos is just outside town on the highway toward Sonoyta, and on the right hand side…look for the dust. Plus, on Sunday there is the Expo Niño over at Peñasco del Sol Hotel – celebrating everything about children with games, a fashion runway, candy, and more!  Tiburones baseball is out of town for the weekend, but will be back on Tuesday, May 1st!

Roads:  Yep, work on Blvd. Fremont headed toward Las Conchas is still underway…and will be for a while…but it’s now easier to get over to the plazas with Aqua Spa, Mickey’s, Portugal’s insurance, or Realty Execs. We saw they were doing some work on the medians along Blvd. Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez, so watch for that.  As always, please drive safely around town and watch for potholes and uneven pavement in spots.

Next weekend: CEDO Kayak caper! Baseball! El Golfo Run! Chili cook-off in Cholla Bay! 5 de mayo sailing regatta in front of Playa Bonita! 5 de mayo fundraiser and pet fashion show for the Rocky Point Animal Adoption Center.  In May there’s fishing tournaments, golf tournaments, a business expo, Thunder on the Beach, and even a bike rally (posters say they’re planning to raffle off a Harley)!!
