“Viva Peñasco” Carnaval festivities are coming to Puerto Peñasco for a fifth year in a row, to be held Feb. 28th – March 1st, with expectations of surpassing last year’s positive results.
Puerto Peñasco mayor Ernesto “Kiko” Munro explained this edition of Carnaval will be celebrated at two location: one next to El Chamizal (Blvd. Juarez), and the other in the esplanade next to Peñasco del Sol Hotel.
This year’s festivities promise to be quite varied, with 40 artistic and cultural exhibitions, and participation of over 800 people. At the time of the early February press conference, at least 10 floats had already confirmed participation, with slots open through Friday, Feb. 21st.
El Chamizal will house the “town theater” where families will be able to enjoy carnival rides, the burning of “Bad Mood”, and fanfare for everyone.
Concerts will be held at the esplanade next to Peñasco del Sol Hotel, featuring La Brissa, Los Tramposos, and Grupo Navi on Saturday, and Carin Leon on Sunday. Tickets are available exclusively at Peñasco del Sol Hotel.
Editor’s note: At the “teatro del pueblo” (people’s theater at El Chamizal) a not to be missed event on Sunday, March 1st, will be the heavy metal band “Lenteja” – who are a promising group of – not so young anymore – local musicians looking to make a name for themselves in the regional Metal scene, which includes Mexicali, San Luis, and Hermosillo.
