¡VIVA PEÑASCO! No, it’s not Mexican Independence Day (Sept. 16th) or the Battle of Puebla (5 de mayo). In fact today, Feb. 24th, is Mexican Flag Day…but this weekend is all about reviving the Carnaval spirit in Puerto Peñasco. Yes, we know Carnaval is really before the beginning of Lent (Ash Wednesday)…which was about 3 weeks ago. But, you can’t argue with the fact the weather is much better this weekend and, after not having Carnaval celebrations in town over the past few years, it’s good to see the tradition start to find its legs again….or feathers, as it were. So, let’s run down the weekend!

Of interest this Thursday – Steve Schwab of the Mexico Children’s Foundation is set to arrive on the outskirts of town after setting out on foot from Scottsdale Feb. 18th for his annual 200.4 mile trek to Puerto Peñasco to raise funds for the foundation.
