Tourist providers encouraged to enroll in National Registry

By José Antonio Perez

The Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) encourages all local businesses that provide services to tourism to enroll in the National Tourism Registry, noting this is a mandatory obligation.  The Registry aims to create a catalog of all tourism providers across the country, with a registry deadline of March 31, 2017.  Under the General Tourism Law, anyone providing services such as: travel agencies, food and beverage, car rentals, golf courses, lodging, tour guides, and spas, among any other service geared to tourism, must enroll in the National Registry.

Enrollment is free prior to March 31, 2017, to prevent any later fines.  To register, contact the Sonora COFETUR office (State Tourism Promotion Commission) 662 289 5800 ext. 131 or 104.  Once registered, business will receive a two-year certificate that can be renewed 30 days prior to expiration.  The local Convention and Visitors Bureau noted with this step the Federal Government is working to strengthen the quality of tourism services and products.
