Stingray alert early in season

By José Antonio Pérez

As temperatures rise, so does the presence of stingrays. This is why it is important to alert beach goers about taking measures to prevent being stung.

Miguel Ángel Ibarra Lomelí, Coordinator of the local Red Cross, reported 16 stingray incidents have already been registered so far this year, which is early as such occurrences usually occur between May and August.

He added with the 120 thousand tourists expected over Semana Santa, beach goers should be warned of the presence of stingrays as most incidents occur as people are unaware of their presence in the water.

Stingray incidents reported this year haven’t been serious injuries, but it is worth noting they are very painful.  NOTE:  Emergency # in Puerto Peñasco is 911*
