Sea Water Desal Project to be bid on in 2018

By Jose Antonio Perez

Mayor Kiko Munro affirms bids are expected this year on a sea water desalination project meant to alleviate some of the pressure on the city’s current and future water supply. While there is no firm date for the tendering process, the goal is to begin construction on the ambitious project by the beginning of 2019.

The mayor detailed the project would first operate to supply water to Peñasco’s growing tourism community, and eventually be commercialized to other regions, states, and possibly even other countries. He further explained while studies are still underway to define investment costs for the project, the private investment endeavor will be shared with the city of Puerto Peñasco via a Public-Private Alliance.
