SCMA “Three Flags Classic” start up from Puerto Peñasco

By José Antonio Pérez

The 43rd edition of the traditional Southern California Motorcycle Association (SCMA) “Three Flags Classic” motorcycle run began at dawn this past Friday, with at least 220 bikers participating in a trip that will take them across 2,000 miles from Mexico, through the United States, and all the way to Canada.

Local event promoter, Oscar Palacio Soto, reported that Puerto Peñasco was chosen as the starting point after being the finish line back in 2017.  He also detailed this is not a time sensitive race, but all participants must make every stop along the route. As bikers complete the entire ride they will be rewarded with a belt buckle allusive to the event. He added there are bikers who have received more than 30 of these buckles.

Palacio Soto made the distinction between runs like this and rallies like the Rocky Point Rally held each November in Puerto Peñasco. This particular event has more of an international impact, whereas the rally is more regional and seeks to promote Puerto Peñasco.
