Following nearly 6 years of planning, research, design, negotiations, and production, the Schuk Toak Visitors Center of the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve has begun installation of a permanent museum at its facility about 15 minutes north of Puerto Peñasco. Due to the installation of the Museum section, the Visitors Center will be closed beginning August 23rd and until further notice, reports Center coordinator Hector Hans Munro Colosio. The main entrance to the Pinacate Reserve (at KM 51 of Federal Highway 8 [Sonoyta – Peñasco]) will remain open during its regular daily hours from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., along with the Information Center located near the entrance.
The museum part of the Visitors Center, Munro explains, will be more didactic, interactive, and esthetically attractive and will further highlight the historic, cultural, biologic, geologic, and landscape values of the Reserve.
The Schuk Toak Visitors Center of the Pinacate Reserve, an ecologically friendly construction built amidst the remains of lava flows is located just off the main highway into Peñasco at KM 73 and has been in operation for nearly three years.

Instalación de la Museografía Permanente en el Centro de Visitantes “Schuk Toak” de la Reserva de la Biósfera El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar
Después de casi 6 años de labores en gestión, planeación, investigación, diseño, y producción, es un placer anunciar que por fin este 21 de agosto se empezó la instalación de la Museografía Permanente en el Centro de Visitantes “Schuk Toak” de la Reserva de la Biósfera El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar. Una museografía mucho mas didáctica, interactiva, estéticamente atractiva que resaltará aún más los valores históricos, culturales, biológicos, geológicos, y paisajísticos de la Reserva.
Por lo tanto, el Centro de Visitantes Schuk Toak quedará cerrado a partir de hoy 23 de agosto, hasta nuevo aviso. El acceso tradicional a la Reserva en el kilómetro 51 de la carretera federal no. 8 (Sonoyta – Peñasco) y su Centro de Información Turístico permanecerá abierta al público.
