Sandy Beach recertified as Clean Beach

Sonora Governor Claudia Pavlovich Arellano, together with Puerto Peñasco mayor Ernesto Munro, were presented with recertification of Sandy Beach as a Level II Clean Beach. The acknowledgement, presented by José Luis Acosta Rodríguez, General Director of the Northwest Basin and Technical Secretary of the Clean Beach Committee, reaffirms Sandy Beach as the only stretch to achieve Clean Beach Certification in Sonora, as well as being the longest stretch of coastline to hold such distinction in the country.

Prior to raising the flag installed on the beach in from of Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort, Governor Pavlovich praised the joint efforts of hoteliers and the municipal government, along with civil and educational associations, who have participated in making this a reality.

“This is an example that civil society, tourism promoters, and the government can work together. Congratulations to all those who did the work, as through these efforts we are creating a better planet,” stressed Governor Pavlovich, “I am extremely pleased with the joint work of businesses and government, along with the community.”

The certified part of Sandy Beach, which extends 1525 lineal meters, received distinction as a sustainable clean beach for the first time two years ago. After having complied with a series of requirements, it was recertified as a Level II Clean Beach, with area hotels and resorts being the main actors in the clean-up and conservation of this certified coastline.
