Run, jump, climb, dive! Weekend Rundown 10/4 – 10/7

You can sense it in the air. The humidity has dropped, and October is in full gear in Rocky Point. Yes, the Sonoyta BRIDGE is OPEN to traffic and it looks like there may be four lanes up there before we know it!

A quick glance at this month’s activities shows us there’s lots in store, so let’s get started with the Weekend Rundown:

This evening, Oct. 4, starting around 6 p.m. in the Kiosko of the Plaza la Madre (next to the baseball stadium when coming into town), we hear that Thursday music nights are starting up! Go ahead, and check it out – we hope to soon! Also, tonight, Oct. 4, CEDO will be holding its First Thursdays movie night. Offering environmental and fun kids films (often in Spanish and/or with English subtitles depending on the crowd), CEDO’s First Thursdays takes place the first Thursday of every month, at their Earth Ship next to the main offices in Las Conchas. Films at 7 p.m., entrance is free, refreshments and snacks available for purchase. While on the topic of CEDO – be sure to check out their NaturArte ecotours this weekend, already listed on our calendar.

Speaking of movies, Citicinemas continues to draw crowds (Plus, we hear there’s 2 x 1 for some Wed. showings). To check out what’s showing, visit www.citicinemas.com and under Elige una Ciudad (Select a city), pick Puerto Peñasco, and again under Todos los complejos (All complexes) select Peñasco. Note: (Sub) represents subtitles – film usually in English with Spanish subtitles, and (Dob) means the film is dubbed into Spanish.

cartel-golf-torneo-401x620 Run, jump, climb, dive! Weekend Rundown 10/4 - 10/71st Pacific Light Four Man Scramble @ The Links Golf Club at Las Palomas.  Oct. 6th Proceeds to help the local Equine Therapy Center (which we hope to write about soon) No horsing around out there, just golf!

To wrap up the evening of the 6th in good fashion, before heading out to the evening presentations of the Jazz Fest at Peñasco del Sol Hotel, the Las Conchas Community Relations Committee will be holding their annual “Back to the Beach Bash” fundraiser – open to the entire community. Cocktails begin at 5 p.m. at La Cocina de Ramón (in town), followed by dinner, a silent auction, and a live auction. Lori Ramirez, of the LC Community Relations Committee, tells us last year this fundraising effort raised about $2000 US for the Committee’s various charity projects that include weekly food boxes, work with the Casa Hogar home for the elderly, Escuela Montaña, and Esperanza Children’s Home.

Activities continue on Sunday, Oct. 7th with a second round of InSANDity over by Sonoran Sea (yes, you can sign up that day!), as well as the closing of the Jazz Fest in the lobby of the Peñasco del Sol Hotel.

Plus, you can be a part of something BIG (we hope) on Sunday, Oct. 7th at 4 p.m. by donning a white or black t-shirt, along with jeans or shorts and making your way to the Plaza de Gobernadores in the Malecón (by the flag pole). There, plans are to use eager individuals to spell out the words VISIT(A) PEÑASCO in ongoing efforts to bring everyone together to promote our great spot here by the sea.  We’ll see you there!  4 p.m. Malecon – Sunday – Oct 7th!!!

For golf enthusiasts, during the week don’t miss out on Wednesday Skins games at The Links course at Las Palomas (start time usually between 3- 4, confirm with Ubi at ugentil@lppmc.com).
