Rocky Point surpassed Labor Day expectations

The recent US Labor Day weekend surpassed tourism expectations in Rocky Point, reported the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV).

OCV President Héctor Vázquez del Mercado highlighted these results confirm the trust of US tourists in Puerto Peñasco and its health protocols. He detailed the recent Labor Day Weekend drew between 30,000 to 35,000 visitors to the area, with an average 80% lodging occupancy rate.  He stressed this important influx represents economic revenue of nearly 1.5 million dollars, aiding the positive economic recovery of 2021.

Health protocols against Covid-19 remain in effect across the city, which Vázquez del Mercado foresees to still be true for the upcoming Fall Break.  He further acknowledged the busy holiday weekend led to return waits of up to 3 hours at the Sonoyta-Lukeville border crossing, highlighting the need to continue working on efforts to streamline the flow of traffic through that area.
