DSCN6349-630x857 Rocky Point Rally plans 1st Kings Day Toy Run!In addition to throwing out candy along the parade route at the 2014 Rocky Point Rally™, rally goers were asked to bring a toy or two for what will hopefully become a new tradition in collecting gifts for a January Kings Day event! The 1st Rocky Point Rally Kings Day Toy Run will be Jan. 10, 2015, and we hope you can join us!

What is Kings Day? Traditionally, Kings Day (Jan. 6th)  is celebrated across Mexico as part of the Christmas season, and particularly with gift giving for children. Kings Day is one of the most anticipated days for Mexican children as in various parts of the country the figure of Santa Claus is not as prevalent (particularly in southern Mexico), so the Kings fulfill the role of delivering surprises and toys. The day is complemented with families and friends sharing a traditional “rosca de reyes” (round pastry made only at this time of the year), champurrado (hot holiday drink), and tamales.

Folks are invited to ride down to Puerto Peñasco the weekend of Jan. 9th – 11th, 2015 to get in on the fun and giving out of gifts. In teaming up with the local Office on Integral Family Development (DIF), which receives part of the Rally donations from November registration fees each year, plans include a Fiesta Mexicana on the morning of Jan. 10th before loading up presents and riding down Blvd. Juarez to the DIF’s kids party in the early afternoon!

m-farris-poster-630x943 Rocky Point Rally plans 1st Kings Day Toy Run!Weekend plans start on Friday evening, Jan. 9th, over at Banditos at about 6:30 p.m. with a rocking acoustic set by rising country star Matt Farris. Yeah, that Matt Farris who took the stage this November at the traditional Friday night fiesta at Playa Bonita, plus on Saturday night on the malecón!  (Don’t miss Rocky Point 360’s interview with Matt here –> I just love playing music)

On Saturday, we’ll head to Shrimp Park (Plaza del Camarón near City Hall) around 10 a.m. for music, food, local artists, and to collect gifts. Food will roll in around 11 a.m. Then, at 1:30 p.m. we’ll gather up all the gifts, load up (bikes and other vehicles welcome to join) and head to the Chamizal fiesta grounds to the DIF party. Yeah, you can dress up like one of the Three Kings or even Santa! See you then!
