The 19th Annual Rocky Point Rally, held the second weekend in November, came full circle in mid-December with presentation of nearly 400 thousand pesos to local charitable donations. Proceeds from rally registration, the Charity Poker Run, and Saturday Bike Show are what make up the funds to help benefit the local organizations. It’s worth noting while registration and participation in the activities is optional, Rally organizers are greatly appreciative of all who choose to register each year in supporting the charitable efforts of the “Greatest Motorcycle Fiesta just South of the Border”!
At a ceremony held December 16th at the local Chamber of Commerce, Rally organizer Oscar Palacio Soto, joined by volunteer coordinator Beverly Arrowood as well as city officials and representatives from the Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), reported fundraising efforts from the 19th Annual Rocky Point Rally totaled 396,560 pesos.
Palacio presented eight organizations with donation proceeds of $2179 USD and 4500 pesos each, while this year the Dialysis Center was chosen to receive $1000 USD and 1000 pesos from the funds raised. As in previous years, the eight organizations benefitting from the Rocky Point Rally proceeds include: the local Fire Department, Puerto Peñasco Red Cross, José Dávalos Casa Hogar home for the elderly, CAM La Montaña school for children with special needs, the Puerto Peñasco chapter of the George Papanicolaou organization for cancer prevention and awareness, the Municipal DIF offices of both Sonoyta and Puerto Peñasco, as well as the Scholarship and Student Housing program of the local DIF.
Though proceeds from this year represented about a 5% reduction in donations from 2018, since it began in 2001 the Rocky Point Rally has donated nearly $300,000 USD to charitable institutions in Puerto Peñasco and Sonoyta.
Dates for the 20th Annual Rocky Point Rally are Nov. 11th – 15th! Be sure to register (when available online or at the Official Registration spot when coming into town) and be part of giving back to worthwhile organizations in Puerto Peñasco!
Currently, Rocky Point Rally organizers and local motorcycle clubs are gearing up for the 6th Annual Kings Day Toy Run – to be held Jan. 11th – Donations of unwrapped toys can be dropped off at Playa Bonita Resort, Rocky Point 360 (Plaza Pelicanos 2nd floor), or at Max’s Jewelry.
