Local sponsors organized the 2020 Rocky Point Golf tournament this past December in an effort to raise scholarship funds for the local Office on Integral Family Development (DIF).
The impetus behind the tournament was to contribute funds that normally would be raised through the annual DIF Black & White Ball. The Ball, as many events this year, was cancelled due to covid-19.
Puerto Peñasco First Lady Linda Pivac de Munro, and president of the local DIF, detailed the event has made it possible to continue providing scholarships benefiting 257 students, while also sustaining the Peñasco University Student Home in Mexicali.
“Over the past 5 years,” explained Pivac de Munro, “137 students have graduated from university, bringing the total number to nearly 400 young people from Puerto Peñasco that have benefited from the scholarship program.”
On behalf of mayor Kiko Munro, as well as students benefiting from the program, Pivac de Munro thanked organizers Jorge Gaona of Manny’s Beach Club, along with his brothers Jerry and Carlos and their teams, as well as Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort. She also expressed appreciation for all of the sponsors and golfers that made the event a success during these trying times.
