Robotic students seek support for China trip

Students from the local COBACH high school, who earned a spot in the World Educational Robot Contest (WER) to be held in Shanghai, China later this month, are currently in the midst of fundraising for their upcoming trip.

The young robotics team (YanZu), made up of Sofía Melendez (17), Rafael Espinoza Navarro (15), and Felipe Eduardo Alarcón Arreola (17), have already raised nearly 47,000 pesos through area businesses and support from the local administration, though are looking to raise an additional 50,000 pesos (approximately  $2700 USD) to assist with airfare for the international competition where they will face teams from over 30 countries.

Shortly after the students visited with Mayor Kiko Munro at City Hall last week, the Mayor presented the YanZu robotics team with a donation consisting of contributions from the city administration and local businesses such as Miguel Guevara, Zagas, Rommel Bustamante, Grupo SBR, and the Bella Sirena real estate development.

To help raise funds for their upcoming trip to the global robotics competition, the students continue to ask for donations through collections and other activities, while a Banamex account has been established on behalf of Cobach for direct deposits (Banamex account 338038).

The World Educational Robot Contest World Championship is held annually, gathering students from around the world who have placed in the top tier of their respective national robotic competitions.
